Pass it On
Hello Everyone! I know I have been pretty silent lately with our recent move to Alabama. I am coming out of hiding to ask for a small favor for my niece, Tiffany. She is a young, single mom who was diagnosed with Chiari Malformation and Syringomyelia. She was diagnosed after she experienced numbness in the side of her body all the way to the tip of her foot. She recently had surgery of the spine/brain and has been told that the numbness in her body will not go away. She experienced extensive damage in her spinal chord. She has a long recovery period ahead of her and she will never be the same.
Like many single parents, Tiffany usually works more than one job at time to try to support her family, but she has no savings. We know that the medical bills for Tiff are going to be much more than $3000, but we didn't want to set an overwhelming goal. All of the money raised will go to helping Tiffany in her recovery. Every penny counts. So again thank you.
Chiari malformation occurs in the region where the brain and the spinal cord join. In this disorder, the portion of the brain called the cerebellum and/or brain stem lies lower than usual. Often, a portion of the cerebellum called the cerebellar tonsils protrudes out of the base of the skull into the spinal canal. This protrusion causes pressure in the brain, contributing to the symptoms people experience.
There are many symptoms associated with CM1—numbness of the limbs, headaches, especially at the base of the skull, dizziness, double vision, weakness in the arms, and/or difficulty walking. When symptoms are present, they are often vague or nonspecific. As a result, the diagnosis of CM1 is often delayed until more severe symptoms present themselves or after milder symptoms persist for some time.
Syringomyelia is a condition characterized by a fluid-filled cyst in the spinal cord.
Please help Tiffany and her family through this very tough time! Share this post or her campaign page even if you can't donate. The more people we reach, the better!
